Microsoft is switching from Bing Chat to Copilot, a brand-new artificial intelligence chatbot that claims to offer individualized support on several platforms.

In February 2023, Microsoft debuted Bing Chat, a conversational AI chatbot that runs on OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model and is integrated with Microsoft’s Bing search engine. But Microsoft is switching to Copilot and dropping the Bing Chat moniker after just ten months.

Microsoft announced on its official blog that it is merging Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise under the single moniker Microsoft Copilot, simplifying the user experience and expanding access to the platform. This is being done to guarantee that Copilot develops into a brand-new AI user companion that works flawlessly with Edge, Microsoft 365, and Windows 11.

Microsoft claims that Copilot will provide users with individualized support based on their work environments, online behaviors, and ongoing tasks. It will be available through a right-click or as an app. “Copilot will uniquely incorporate the context and intelligence of the web, your work data, and what you are doing at the moment on your PC to provide better assistance – with your privacy and security at the forefront,” says Microsoft.

The September Windows 11 update marked a significant milestone in Microsoft’s rollout of Copilot, and general availability for enterprise clients is scheduled for fall. Users of the Bing browser will see that “Copilot” has replaced “Bing” after updating.

Along with the release of Copilot, Microsoft is also releasing a number of new products and services. More than 150 new features have been added to Windows 11, including AI-powered improvements to Paint, Photos, Clipchamp, and other apps. DALL.E 3 will now be supported by Bing, which will also offer more customized search results depending on user history.

Here are some of the latest updates included with Windows 11:

  • Paint & Photos: Paint now uses AI to make background removal easier, provide layer support, and show off Cocreator, a generative AI tool that improves digital sketching and artistic endeavors. Photos easily incorporate AI to speed up photo discovery and editing. Users can now easily highlight photo subjects with this improved tool, which automatically detects and blurs backgrounds. Users can find images based on location or subject with the use of advanced search tools.
  • Improved Snipping Tool Capture and Sharing: With improved features, users may extract text from photos, redact sensitive information, and capture audio for videos.
  • Enhanced accessibility: Microsoft is adding more lifelike voices to Narrator and launching new voice-activated text writing tools to further improve accessibility of Windows 11.
  • Windows Backup: Microsoft has also simplified the Windows Backup process, making it possible to migrate to a new Windows 11 computer and to transfer files, programs, and settings more easily.
  • Improvements to Clipchamp: Microsoft has also added new capabilities to Clipchamp, such as auto-compose tools that provide narrative, scene, and edit ideas based on photos and video. This tool makes it easy for anyone to produce videos that seem professional by streamlining the editing and creation processes.
  • Notepad Upgrades: Notepad now automatically saves your session state thanks to a new feature from Microsoft. This implies that all of your previously open tabs, unsaved text, and edits will be restored when you reload Notepad, and you can close it without receiving any prompts or warnings.
